Saturday Brings a Dominating D, and Lane Kiffin?

It's gonna get loud in there!

Earlier in the week, we warned against overlooking the Sun Devils. Actually, we warned against overlooking their fine coach, Dennis Erickson. After much thought and careful analysis, I have discovered that Coach Erickson will be forced to remain on the sidelines.

The combination of a night game in Athens, AJ Green, and a defense that is sick and tired of hearing how utterly awful they are, will be prove to be too much for Arizona State. Way, way too much.

The Dawg's defense will not be run against tomorrow night.  After about ten minutes, this game will turn into a "test bed" for Willie Martinez and the defensive staff. ASU will be forced to throw the ball, unless they are going to pull a Laney and only play to keep it close. This will allow Willie to iron out the kinks in our pass coverage and get some young players a little playing time.

I imagine Bobo's first play call will be something like, okay Joe, see if you can over throw AJ. Joe can't, touchdown. Second series, okay Joe, try to over throw Tavarres. Tavarres will not let that happen again, touchdown. Third series, okay Joe, let's over throw Orson Charles. While Joe knows he can  do this, he chooses not to and hit him in the hands, for a touchdown.

Willie and the boys, no longer having to worry about that pesky play-action pass, pin their ears back and begin a  utterly satisfying night of defensive stat stuffing. There will be sacks, there will be big-hits, and yes, there will be turnovers.

Somewhere around the 7 minute mark of the third quarter, Dennis Erickson will morph into Lane Kiffin, and Joe Cox will give way to Logan Gray. The rest of the night will be spent with the Dawgs of tomorrow entertaining an overly intoxicated audience.

A good time will be had by all.

Flood is Done, Devils to Come

I must admit, win the clock counted down to zero in Fayetteville, I wasn't concerned with Arizona State. I was dreading Tennessee, LSU, et al.

I certainly hope that is not the case with the Georgia Bulldogs and its coaching staff. In yesterday's teleconference, Coach Mark Richt spoke at length about the Sun Devil's place-kicker. The place-kicker that will not even be suiting up.

Dennis Erickson is a proven winner. He has won everywhere he has been. Typical coach speak is all he is giving the media, but his players have admitted the UGA game has been circled on the schedule every since last season ended. A few ASU players have been quoted as saying their game two seasons ago with Oregon State in Autzen has prepared them for Sanford. Their coach isn't so sure.

Much like Arkansas last week, the Sun Devils have been prepping for the Bulldogs extensively. They have three quality games worth of tape to review. What will Erickson have in store for us?

Certainly, Georgia has a talent edge and home field advantage. The Dawgs are battle tested, but they have also been exposed?

As explosive as our offense has been the last two weeks, we must not forget the debacle in Stillwater. Flu or no flu, we didn't look prepared to face what was then thought, and has been since proven, to be an inferior Oklahoma State defense.

In Dennis Erickson we are facing out fourth offensive minded head coach in a row. Erickson has seen our defense get taken apart in various ways. The job does not get any easier for Willie Martinez and company.

ASU does not want to get in a shootout. Jeff Metcalfe, of the Arizona Republic, says "There is virtually no chance that the Sun Devils will outscore the Bulldogs in Athens, Ga. The chance for an upset hinge on playing a smart defensive game and exploiting the difference in turnover margin; ASU is No. 1 nationally, and Georgia is No. 116."

Not sure I agree with Mr. Metcalfe. They may want to shorten the game due to talent and depth issues, but something tells me Coach Erickson is licking his chops.

We better be ready!

Go Dawgs!

Just seeing who is paying attention
