- Alabama - the ole place mountain in front of kicker gag rides again
- Florida - Replay be damned
- Texas - Still unbeaten
- Iowa - winning close and ugly
- Cincinnati - getting the most from the least
- Souther Cal - starting to feel they may be overrated
- Boise State - smooth sailing
- TCU - whose gonna beat-em?
- LSU - still losable games to come
- Oregon - will OSU spoil things?
- Georgia Tech - mirrors
- Penn State - not sure they belong, but if not, then who
Mumme Poll Ballot:
- Alabama - by default, nobody is really impressing me except the Alabama defense
- Cincinnati - I thought they played pretty good against a decent S. Florida team. Lost starting QB in a hostile environment and didn't need any help from the Zebras
- Iowa - Undefeated with an impressive win against Penn State in Happy Valley
- Texas - Winning ugly is still winning.
- Florida - I hate to put Florida in here, for they probably do not win against Arkansas without Slive's henchmen helping.
- Southern Cal - Notre Dame is not that good, I may have them too high.
- Boise State - They have impressed every time I watched, until Tulsa. Schedule is weak, weak, weak
- Miami - Win over Ga Tech looks more impressive this week.
- Georgia Tech - no comment
- Oregon - What a bounce back from the humiliation on the blue turf
- TCU - Not their fault nobody with a name will play them
- Penn State - Iowa loss looks good as long as Iowa keeps winning
Mumme Poll ballot:
- Alabama - they have been the most impressive to me.
- Florida - defense alone puts them near the top
- Texas - have looked shaky, but have won
- Virginia Tech - found themselves late against Nebraska, best loss
- Boise State - surprised by their talent, soft schedule still an issue
- Cincinnati - keep winning, soft schedule is a concern
- LSU - seem to play to the level of their competition
- Iowa - moving on up after slow start
- Southern Cal - still can't understand the loss to UDub, qb or no qb
- Miami - team on the rise
- Ohio State - not really impressed, but others have fallen by the wayside
- Penn State - one of the better losses of the year, even if it didn't look like it at the time
