Battle lost for the season | Blogs.OnlineAthens.com
Georgia has lost starting defensive end Rod Battle to a season-ending knee injury, coach Mark Richt said today.
Battle sustained a torn left ACL injury in the first half of the 41-37 victory Saturday night over South Carolina.
The Atlanta native has started 22 games for the Bulldogs, tied for the second most on the Georgia defense. He has five sacks and 45 tackles in his collegiate career.
“It’s sad,” Richt said. “It’s just sad for Roderick first and foremost, no doubt, and it’s tough on us. That’s why you recruit and train guys and teach guys to play both end positions.”
The No. 23 Bulldogs will get a big boost at defensive end for Saturday’s game at Arkansas with the return of redshirt sophomore Justin Houston, who has completed a two-game suspension.
